Quanto à temperatura dos CPU's, veja este tópico. Precisa de ter instalado o lm-sensors e correr o seguinte comando:

sudo sensors-detect

Siga as instruções e reinicie o computador! Depois usando a dica apresentada no tópico que mencionei verá que pode obter a temperatura do CPU.

O meu problema é que acho eu, que o meu PC não faz a leitura da temperatura dos processadores (CPUs).

Deixo aqui o output do comando sensors no terminal e agradeço que me confirmem as minhas suspeitas ou me digam onde estão, ou está esse bendito valor da temperatura dos CPUs que não consigo descortinar.

Peço-lhe que faça um pequeno teste, faça a leitura dos sensores antes de abrir o Centro de Software do Ubuntu (há que usar os defeitos do Ubuntu em nosso favor ) e depois de aberto vai verificar que o CPU fica à volta dos 100% (a menos que use o Ubuntu 11.10, aí não sei como o Centro de Software se comporta, caso isto não se verifique, use algo que saiba que vai causar algum consumo de CPU) e faça uma nova leitura. Agora verifique qual é que acompanhou essa subida:

• temp1
• SIO Temp
• temp3

Pelo que vejo do seu output, deve tratar-se de um desktop, certo?

Boas Luís, muito obrigado pelos esclarecimentos.

Fiquei a pensar se não seria esse tal valor temp 3 referente ao CPU, mas muito sinceramente acabei por ignorar o pormenor das temperaturas e deixar o conky sem valores reais, apenas com o parâmetro do disco duro e retirando a linha referente à temperatura do CPU.

Realmente tenho um desktop HP Pavilion m7660pt, dual-core a 2,80Mghz, 2GB de RAM e uma (velhinha) ATI X1600 de 512 Mb.
Instalei à cerca de uns dias o Ubuntu Natty 11.04 com o Unity 3D e está a funcionar bem.

Mas, mais cedo ou mais tarde terei que investir numa nova placa gráfica ATI (visto que, além de estar muito contente com a minha, são conhecidos os problemas da NVidia no Linux!) e em mais memória RAM, pelo menos mais 2 Gb.

Quando uso um sistema operativo instalado no Virtual Box noto bastante a falta de RAM e de capacidade gráfica extra!

Também não possuo virtualização de hardware o que me vai impedir de instalar os novos sistemas operativos numa máquina virtual, como já me aconteceu com o 11.10 Oneiric e também quando tentei experimentar o Mac OSX Leopard.

Portanto, terei que, muito em breve investir num novo Desktop (prefiro aos Laptops).
